Oswego Fire Protection District is currently hiring for Entry Level Firefighters.

The position of Firefighter requires the special ability to remain composed under pressure while responding swiftly and effectively to emergencies. Firefighters must work in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, making split-second decisions to protect lives and property. In 2024, the Oswego Fire Protection District responded to thousands of emergency calls, providing critical fire suppression, emergency medical services, and public safety assistance to the community.

Requirements for Firefighter Role:

Age: 19–34 years old to apply (unless exempt by state law), 21+ for appointment.

‍Legal: No felony or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions.

‍Education: High school diploma or GED.

‍Citizenship: U.S. citizen.

‍License & Certifications:
• Valid driver’s license.
• EMT-P (Paramedic) Certification (Illinois or National Registry) by start date.
• Basic Operations Firefighter or Firefighter II (within one year of hire).

‍Physical Ability: Valid CPAT & Ladder Climb Certification (dated 9/27/2023 – 9/27/2024).

‍Health & Testing: Must pass a written test, medical exam, drug test, and background check.
